CANOA LAB
Canoa Lab is an experimental ceramics studio based in Valencia, founded by Raquel Vidal and Pedro Paz. Their practice investigates the passage of time through objects, creating pieces that blur the boundary between the archaeological and the contemporary.
Drawing inspiration from ancient Iberian, Roman, and Greek cultures, their work explores how objects age, transform, and accumulate meaning. Through self-formulated glazes layered over one another, surfaces evoke the sedimentation of matter over time, giving each piece a sense of temporal depth and material memory.
Using ancestral techniques such as coil building, press molds, and lost-wax casting, Canoa Lab works with clay and metal as living materials. Their objects emerge from slow, minimal-tool processes that establish a direct connection with traditional craft, allowing past and present to coexist within each form.
