IÑIGO MANTEROLA
Iñigo Manterola is a Spanish artist whose practice is rooted in an early engagement with drawing and painting and later expanded into sculptural work. Born into a family with a strong seafaring tradition, his artistic language has long been influenced by the coastal landscape, fishing boats, and the rhythms of port life.
In his sculptural practice, Manterola moves away from figuration toward abstraction, translating ideas of movement, weight, and continuity into solid metal forms. His works explore how motion can be held within matter, creating structures that rise from the ground, traverse space, and return to it, forming closed cycles of balance and tension.
Working primarily with iron, his sculptures are conceived as unique, non-reproducible pieces. Compact and grounded, they express permanence and restraint, capturing movement as something both physical and timeless.
