LAURA RAMÍREZ

Laura Ramírez is a ceramic artist based in Madrid whose work explores themes of displacement, belonging, and the deep connection between material and place. Her sculptural practice is rooted in a slow, intuitive approach to clay, where form develops gradually through repeated stages of building and refinement.

Influenced by her time studying and living in Australia, Laura’s work draws on the Aboriginal concept of Country as a living relationship between people, land, and all forms of life. Her pieces are inspired by organic and cellular structures, particularly organelles, reflecting the shared patterns that unite all living beings.

A central body of her practice is the ongoing Organelle series, developed through a studio-based process that combines coiling and sculpting techniques. Forms grow slowly through repetition and touch, allowing refinement and rawness to coexist while subtle traces of the making remain visible. Through this approach, clay is treated primarily as a sculptural medium rather than a functional one.
