LUIS SALABERRÍA

A practice rooted in painting and drawing that expands into three-dimensional form through clay. Working with traditional ceramic objects, Luis Salaberria intervenes classical typologies such as búcaros, vessels, jars and pitchers, transforming them into contemporary sculptural works.

Produced in collaboration with traditional Spanish potters, these pieces are made in red clay and later altered through perforation, added volumes, and painted interventions using engobes. Without preliminary sketches, Salaberria works intuitively, allowing gesture, symbolism and improvisation to guide the process. The resulting works retain their original function while acquiring a strong sculptural and pictorial presence.

Moving between art brut, popular imagery and abstraction, his practice embraces imperfection, error and spontaneity. Each piece stands at the intersection of craft and contemporary art, merging sustainability, tradition and experimentation into unique, non-reproducible objects.
