CALMA

Ricard Casabayó is a sculptor whose practice centers on stone as a vessel of memory, energy and trace. For Casabayó, art is the imprint that the intangible leaves on matter. His work evokes the energetic presence of ancient lithic cultures, yet rather than monumental scale, he proposes what could be described as a “minilithic” approach, reclaiming the pebble instead of the megalith.

Working primarily with stone, Casabayó also incorporates materials such as wood, iron, aluminum, resins and plastics. Through carving, incision and surface intervention, he creates subtle pathways and gestures that suggest movement, touch and transformation. The chisel becomes a tool for revealing hidden tensions within the material, allowing form and texture to emerge through a refined and intimate process.

His sculptures often transform ordinary objects into symbolic presences, almost like private ex-votos. Rooted in a deep awareness of space and material dialogue, Casabayó’s works invite multiple readings—oscillating between the everyday and the poetic, the physical and the sensory. Each piece becomes a condensed narrative where matter, gesture and perception meet.
